The reason I paint the modern cowboy and Indian is that they have more troubles than their ancestors did a hundred years ago. Past traditions must compete with today's society. It is much easier to give in to society than to follow the traditions of the past. I paint only real people. The ones who symbolize the very essence of their culture. A few years ago I was blessed to be adopted in the Cheyenne way by the headsman of one of their warrior clans called the Bowstring Society. He is also on of the highest decorated (militarily) Cheyenne in the Cheyenne Nation.
